The Hudsons

I would like to point out that is 4:39 pm and it is not yet dark. The days are drawing out, and for that I thank them.
I saw a morning dove and a downy woodpecker today in a the park. The trees were frozen and stiff, the dove motionless and puffed up, and the woodpecker was the only sign of life, hopping along the trunk of a lime tree, pecking with great enthusiasm.
I had no idea that the two hawks I saw high up in that tree are a couple of longstanding named the Hudsons, but here is a wonderful piece by my friend Jess Green in New York Magazine all about their struggles to raise a family.
