Toile Tattoo

Somehow, it has come to pass that neither of my kids has a tattoo. This is a miracle, and it makes me happy every day. Have you noticed that the proportion of tattooed designers on Project Runway has grown alarmingly from year to year? But now, I have found tattoos even a mother could love: these wonderful manly men dolls made by mimi kirchner (click here) with TOILE tattoos!

When I was little, my father taught me a wonderful song about a tattooed lady:

I paid a dime to see
A Scotch tattooed lassie.
She was a sight to see.
Tattooed from head to knee.
Up and down her spine
Was the Queen’s own navy line.
Across her kidney
Was a bird’s eye view of Sydney.
But what I liked best
Was across her chest…
My home in the hills of Tennessee.

Or something to that effect.

I love the toile idea and the next time my boy gets general anaesthetic, he is in for a fashionable surprise.

I was watching project runway last night and noticed the same thing! I started thinking about tattoos for myself (I have always secretly wanted one) and came up, for the first time, with a design I think I could actually live with on my body, toile! Subsequently I did a google search this morning, and up came your blog! Fabulous Doll!

That would be so fabulous–an actual toile tattoo. If you go through with it, will you send a picture? I once (secretly) considered a tattoo that was an old-fashioned monogram, but instead I gave to a character in The Love Letter. Anyway, toile would be a million times better! Little lambs, a hunting dog, a bower…Or the design on Blue Willow china. That also might look very nice.
